Collection:
Winchester College Fellows' Library

Full Title: Thomas Browne, Posthumous works (London, 1712)

This portrait was engraved by the Flemish artist Michael Vandergucht (16601725). Published just two years after Browne’s death, the Posthumous works contain some of his antiquarian texts, such as his study of the monuments of Norwich Cathedral. Also included is ‘A letter to a friend, upon occasion of the death of his intimate friend’ in which he consoles the recipient while musing upon the nature of death.
